Avalon Nursing Home employs 2 activity assistants which all have their own strengths to ensure that all the needs of the residents are met. The home Activity Coordinator, Sabrina is able to coordinate in house activities and hobbies with the assistance of her 2 colleagues. Activities also range from trips to the park, the shops, trips to the theatre or to the seafront for ice cream on warm days. We enjoy having Pet pals, Zoolab, Rosie's retro sounds and Birdie as well as other outside entertainers coming into the home.
The home provides entertainment and social gatherings every week with shows, and singers performing at the home. All residents are encouraged to participate with in-house activities so that any skills lost through illness for example may be regained and they can enjoy as full a life as possible. The decision to attend any activities is purely down to the resident and there is no pressure to participate. Those that are unable to get to the lounge or remain in bed do have a 1:1 sensory activity each day which can range from anything associated with smell, touch, taste, sight and hearing.
With consent from either the resident or their families, we are able to post our activity photographs on Facebook.
