Welcome to Avalon Nursing & dementia home. Below is a guide to our staff uniforms to help you identify who we are. If you have any queries or concerns speak to the Matron or the sister in charge in the first instance.

Lynn Shingfield is the Senior Registered Manager and has been with Avalon since 1991. Lynn is NMC registered & is a member of the Royal College of Nursing. Lynn has a Diploma in Psychology, a QCF assessor & has a Diploma in Health Education. Lynn has also just completed training with the NHS namely ‘Compassionate leadership in Dementia care’ Lynn commenced employment under the previous owners/providers & became the Registered Manager in February 2007. Lynn is responsible for the supervision & appraisals of all nursing staff & heads of departments. Lynn is also the tissue viability link nurse for the Wound Healing Centre.


Jo Thomson is the deputy manager/trained nurse of Avalon & has been employed for nearly 8 years. Jo is responsible for medication ordering, audits & the supervision of the senior health care assistants.


Emma Shingfield is the team leader at Avalon and has been working for nearly 8 years. Emma assists our Senior care staff & Junior care staff to maintain the high standards of care within the home. She will be conducting supervisions with Senior Care Staff and ensuring that the Care Competencies of all Care staff are up to date and reflect the needs of our residents. 


Kelsie Curcher has been at Avalon for 7 years total at Avalon and Sabrina Groome has been there for 3 years. 


Helen Slade is also a trained cook & commenced employment in July 1999 as a general helper for all areas but now concentrates on the kitchen serving up home cooked food. Tristen Pike is a trained cook and has joined Avalon to work in conjunction with Helen to serve up tasty & nutritious meals to our residents.


Avalon also employs a wealth of other staff members to ensure the smooth running of the home. They include, laundry, maintenance, domestics and activity staff.


Avalon also boasts a wealth of knowledge in the shape of our nursing staff that ensure the home is smoothly run 24 hours a day.


Avalon has recently done a recruitment drive to find the best care staff in Eastbourne. We have recently employed 9 care staff to enhance our already strong team of care staff to ensure that the residents are Avalon’ top priority.
